Wilton Kershaw started the Dairy Herd with a breed of cattle called Dairy Shorthorns. His Son, Cornelius, later took over the running of the herd, introducing the British Fresian Cow.
Milk was bottled on site and supplied to milkmen to make local doorstep deliveries.
In 1981, Peter (Cornelius’s Son) and his wife Sue bought another farm near Mirfield. In subsequent years, the herd of dairy cattle moved to this larger site to a purpose built dairy for pasteurising and bottling of milk and cream. Peter and Sue expanded the milk business into Kershaw’s Milk which supplied milk to small supermarkets, cash and carries, schools and nursing homes as far afield as Rochdale, Leeds and Sheffield.
Eggs have played a large part in Villa Farm’s business, having been produced here for over 40 years. Big changes took place at the end of December 2011 with the EEC bringing along the end of battery cages for hens. A new building was erected at the back of the farm to house the new colony birds, which would allow for the hens to live in a more friendly, eco way in family groups.
Our café serves all day breakfasts, light lunches and afternoon teas. All food is home cooked, and we use most of the produce which we sell in the shop, including beef brisket for hot beef sandwiches, our Award-Winning Villa Farm pork sausages and bacon for breakfast and more.

In 1981, Peter and Sue opened Villa Farm Shop selling home produced milk and eggs, homemade cakes and in the beginning live rainbow trout. In 2009 the Farm Shop was expanded to include a Butchery and Delicatessen Counter.
The day to day running of the farm shop is now run by the daughter, Sam and her husband William. The son Richard and his wife Yvonne run the farm. The Shop and Farms continue to grow and flourish.
We have now given the farm shop a brand-new logo and new identity. Villa Farm has always been synonymous with cows. The new identity is designed to continue the tradition in a new and modern way. The shop is still run by the Kershaw family with the same core values and the same dedication to customers for sourcing local, fresh produce at affordable prices.
Our mission is to limit food miles by offering customers as much local and home made quality products as possible at affordable prices. As a family business we are committed to offering quality local produce and service to our customers. This ethos along with excellent customer service are paramount to the success of our business.
